Coming Drought Conditions Will Impact Braintree Lawns

Many lawns in our region are beginning to show signs of stress, such as patches of brown grass and dying trees, says Eric Fisher, chief meteorologist of CBS Boston. While he’s quick to point out that Braintree and the surrounding communities don’t traditionally experience the same sort of multi-year droughts that have been troubling California and Texas, there’s no denying the dry conditions are rough on lawns. The forecast doesn’t hold a lot of hope: scattered storms may add a little moisture to the environment in the next week or so, but they won’t do much to change the fact that some towns are up to ten inches behind in the amount of rain they’ve received.

Keeping your lawn looking good under these conditions can take some work. Step one is to coordinate with your Braintree lawn service. Having the pros monitoring and supporting the condition of your yard helps make sure that things don’t get completely out of hand when your attention is demanded elsewhere. Watering strategies will vary based on your yard’s unique layout and local weather patterns; that being said, there are ways your lawn service can ensure water being used for landscaping purposes is delivered as desired and not being wasted by spraying onto paved driveways or building sides. For best results, watering should be deep but infrequent.

During drought periods, you may notice that your Braintree lawn service cuts the grass slightly longer. There are two reasons for this. Longer strands of grass are better able to resist dry conditions; additionally, they grow deeper, longer roots. If you are in the process of redesigning your yard, consider drought-resistant varieties or particularly hardy plants that will thrive no matter what’s going on with the weather. Your lawn service will be able to advise you on what varieties of grass will grow best should you need to reseed areas of your yard.
