Host a Stargazing Party in Your Backyard

Tonight is the Draconid meteor shower. If you live in the Brockton area, you’ve got a good chance of getting a glimpse of a shooting star. The peak watching time for the Draconid meteor shower is early in the evening, immediately after the sun has gone down. This makes it a great meteor shower to watch with your kids – many other meteor showers don’t take place until well after bedtime!

Backyard astronomy is a fun activity. Best of all, it’s free. Getting out in the night and gazing at the stars doesn’t require any expensive equipment. You can just use your eyes and see a lot of amazing stuff. That being said, adding a pair of binoculars or even a telescope to the night will allow you to see so much more.

If you’re going to host a stargazing party in your backyard, give your Brockton lawn service a head’s up. That way you can ensure your grass is freshly mowed and looking great. If you’re worried about guests with chemical sensitivities – this is increasingly common concern for children and pets – be aware that there are all natural lawn care options available.

Other elements for a great stargazing party include comfortable seating. Stargazing requires a significant amount of looking up, which can be tough on the neck and shoulders, so if you have seating that reclines, make good use of that! It gets chilly in the evening in Brockton at this time of year. In addition to encouraging your guests to dress appropriately, it can be a good idea to provide a couple of cozy throws or blankets.

In Western MA, we do have a certain amount of light pollution going on. That can obscure some of the stars we’re able to see. That being said, meteors have a tendency to stand out. Here’s more information about the Draconids. Happy star gazing!
