Early Snow Means No More Lawn Care…Right? Not Necessarily!

After last winter, even the most ardent snow lovers flinched a little bit when flakes of the white stuff were spotted falling from the sky throughout our region this weekend. After all, we haven’t even had Halloween yet! Some Boston homeowners did do a little happy dance – after all, early snow means no more lawn care chores, right?

Well, not necessarily. Odds are that this snow won’t be staying around for long. That means that your grass – which tends to grow faster as temperatures drop – will need to be mowed at least a few more times. Additionally, there’s the issue of what to do with all those beautiful autumn leaves that have fallen on your yard. After you’ve sent the kids to school with whatever amount is needed for arts and crafts time, what happens to the rest?

(Don’t worry – if you’d rather spend your weekends watching the Pats, your Boston lawn service can handle the yard clean up for you!)

Another lawn care task that needs to happen at this time of year is fertilizing. If you had a chance to get out into farm country over the weekend, you may have seen farmers plowing the fresh snow fall into their fields: odds are, at the same time, they were augmenting their soil with organic fertilizer, compost, or other nutrients. Your lawn can benefit from some fertilizer now as well. Have your Boston lawn service top dress the lawn, so the valuable nutrients can work their way down into the soil over the long snowy months to come. That way, next spring, your grass will look great!
