Dollar Spots

Noticing small, round patches popping up in your lawn? Has the recent weather consisted of lots of high humidity and long periods of rain? If yes, you could be dealing with the common lawn disease Dollar Spot.

Dollar Spot’s appearance consists of little circles in clusters throughout the lawn, brown in color and about the size of a Silver Dollar (hence the name). It effects almost all types of grass, but most notably Fescue, Rye, Bent, Blue, Bermuda and Zoysia. Dollar Spot is most often seen anywhere from late Spring to late Fall, when temperatures hover around 60-85 degrees.

There are three major factors that can induce Dollar Spot in a lawn, which are

  1. Mowing too short
  2. Not applying enough fertilizer
  3. Consistently wet leaves/debris

Help combat this infestation by cutting your lawn to the recommended 3-4 inches, keep the lawn healthy with consistent fertilizer applications, and water in the morning so the midday sun dries things up before temps cool down at night.

Those tips not helping? Don’t fret! Our Soil Enrichment Program should help clear that right up by stopping the disease in it’s tracks and keeping it at bay in the future. When paired with our 6-step Lawn Care Program, which will also help keep the lawn healthy and strong by applying consistent applications of fertilizer during peak times of the year, your grass will be sure to combat disease in seasons to come.
