Dear Valued Customers,
As we transition into the spring season, we want to keep you informed about our upcoming lawn care treatments tailored for your specific grass types.
For Bermuda & Zoysia Lawns: Starting at the end of February and into March, we will begin applying a specially formulated slow-release fertilizer. This nutrient-rich product is designed to gradually nourish your lawn over time, promoting robust growth and vibrant color. The slow-release formula ensures that your grass receives consistent nutrition, enhancing its health and resilience throughout the season. Expect a lush, green lawn that thrives under optimal conditions!
For Fescue Lawns: We’re will also be implementing our spring treatments for your fescue lawns. These treatments will include a pre-emergent application to prevent unwanted weeds from taking root, along with our fast-acting fertilizer to provide essential nutrients. Additionally, we will be applying post-emergent control measures to target any existing weeds, ensuring your fescue lawn remains healthy and beautiful.
Proper Scalping Technique for Bermuda Lawns:
As we prepare for the upcoming fertilization, it’s the perfect time for Bermuda customers to consider scalping their lawns. Scalping involves cutting your grass to a lower height to remove excess thatch and promote healthy growth as the season begins. To achieve optimal results, we recommend scalping your Bermuda grass to a height of about .75 to 1.25 inches.
For the best timing, it’s ideal to scalp your lawn about 5-7 days before the slow-release fertilizer application. This allows your grass to recover from the cut and ensures it can effectively absorb the nutrients when applied. If you know the date on which you are going to scalp, please advise us so we can schedule appropriately.
Zoysia Lawns Spring Mowing Recommendations:

For a Zoysia lawn, it’s best to scalp by reducing your mowing height gradually until reaching a height of ½ to 1 inch for thin blade Zoysia like Zeon or 1 to 1 ½” for thicker bladed Zoysia like Emerald or Meyer. Do this to the lawn in late March or early April, once the chance of a hard frost has passed and when daytime temperatures are consistently warm (around 70°F or higher). Since your slow-release fertilizer is applied in late February or early March, waiting a couple of weeks allows the grass to begin greening up naturally and makes scalping more effective.
Mowing Recommendations for Fescue Lawns:
For Fescue lawns, maintain a mowing height of around 3 to 4 inches during the growing season, including March and April when fertilizers are applied. This height helps keep the grass healthy, reduces weed competition, and protects the roots from temperature fluctuations. Never remove more than one-third of the grass blade at a time when mowing to avoid stressing the lawn.
