April 2025 Newsletter

Dear Lawn Doctor Family,

As we embrace the beautiful months of April and May, it’s time to get your lawns in top shape! This is your comprehensive guide to ensuring your Bermuda, Zoysia, and Fescue lawns thrive in the spring sunlight.

Mowing Recommendations

  • Bermuda Grass: As temperatures rise, begin mowing your Bermuda grass when it reaches 2 to 3 inches. Keep it trimmed to about 1.5 to 2 inches for optimal health and robustness.
  • Zoysia Grass: For Zoysia, mow when it starts to reach 2-3 inches, maintaining a height of around 1 to 2 inches. This grass type thrives with regular mowing during spring.
  • Fescue Grass: Fescue lawns can be maintained at a height of 3 to 4 inches. Mow regularly to promote new growth and discourage weeds.

Watering Recommendations

Spring brings warmer temperatures and, with that, the need for adequate watering:

  • Bermuda and Zoysia Grass: Water deeply but infrequently, aiming for 1 to 1.5 inches of water weekly to encourage deep root growth. Water early in the morning to reduce evaporation.
  • Fescue Grass: Fescue lawns require about 1 to 1.5 inches weekly, but adjust based on rainfall to not allow the ground to be dried out for multiple days in a row. Consistent moisture is key for lush green growth.

Common Fungus Issues: With the onset of warm, humid weather, fungus can become a concern. It is crucial to be vigilant! Common issues include brown patches and powdery mildew. If you suspect any fungal growth in your lawn, please reach out to us immediately. Our program includes a prevention strategy targeting these concerns, especially in May and June.

Spring Treatments: This season, every lawn will benefit from our specialized treatments. We utilize top-quality products to ensure your lawn stays healthy and vibrant. These treatments aim to:

  • Strengthen your grass against pests and diseases
  • Promote lush growth
  • Enhance water retention in your soil

As we proceed with these treatments, you can expect to see a significant improvement in your lawn’s overall health and appearance.

Core Aeration Services: We are pleased to announce that we are about ready to start spring Core Aerations and will schedule these for May and June! This process involves removing small plugs of soil from your Bermuda or Zoysia lawn to enhance airflow, nutrient access, and water penetration to the roots. Benefits of aeration include:

  • Reduced soil compaction
  • Increased nutrient and water absorption
  • Encouraged deep root development
  • A healthier, more resilient lawn

If you haven’t already requested aeration, contact us so you don’t miss this opportunity to improve your lawn’s health!

Bedweed Treatment Program: We offer a 3-application Bedweed treatment program for our lawn service customers. The first treatment focuses on preventing weed growth, while subsequent visits will target any emerging weeds with precise applications. We can provide individual quotes tailored to your lawn care needs and greatly reduce the amount of hand pulling of weeds your landscape beds require. It is highly recommended to do our first bedweed service before you mulch or pine straw

Happy Lawn Care!
