Tony’s Lawn Care Tips for November 2017

happy thanksgiving poster fall lawn care portraitA cool rainy day; we have not had many of these this fall. As a matter of fact, all the surplus rainfall we had accumulated this spring-summer, has now been eliminated by the shortage of rain this fall. Be sure to continue to water new fall plantings, especially evergreens; dry winds can wick them dry.

LAWN CARE

Most of the lawns have now bounced back from the dry spell, though grubs are still causing damage where not treated. There is still time to apply control for grubs.

owner with lawn blowerThe leaves are coming down. Are you ready to deal with them? What is the best method for handling leaves? Simply remove them on a regular basis, so wet matted leaves are not smothering your grass- especially new seedlings! A blower works the best.

We have been reminding clients about the need to continue watering newly seeded areas. Nothing grows without water! How long should you continue to water the new grass? This depends on rainfall and cold temperatures. Stop watering when we have nighttime temperatures in the 30’s.

Last Cut. Your lawn will start slowing down as the temperatures stay cool. Generally, the last cutting should be one notch lower than your normal cutting height.
