Lawn Weed Control in Tupelo: Stop Invaders with a Treatment Plan

Close up of blades of grass showing lawn weed control in TupeloWhen you’ve got weeds in your yard, you might want to just yank them out by hand. But many types common across the Tupelo, MS area have deep-growing roots, not to mention thousands of little seedheads, making this approach temporarily satisfying, but ultimately ineffective when it comes to lawn weed control.

Instead, take a better approach and maintain grass that’s healthy and strong, so it can build up defenses and stop future attacks on its own. To do that, make sure you’re:

  • Watering when necessary. When the temperatures begin to rise and rain is limited, your lawn needs to be irrigated. However, don’t deliver a light application each night. Instead, provide around an inch of water so it seeps down into the soil, encouraging roots to go after it and grow deeper as a result. A heartier root system will make your lawn less prone to future weed infestations.
  • Mowing to the right height. Mowing too short stresses out your lawn and enables young weeds to absorb more sunlight, water, and other resources from the environment. While recommended cutting rates vary depending on your grass type, focus on the 1/3 rule, never removing more than that with each mowing.
  • Fixing hidden issues. There are many problems that can contribute to weed growth. Take, for instance, nutrient deficiencies. When grass is malnourished, growth is weak and defenses are down, making your lawn a prime target for weeds. Another issue is when the pH level is off in your soil and it’s either too acidic or alkaline. When challenges like these are impacting the health of your yard, it’s important to find and fix them to maximize all your other efforts.
