Mosquito Spraying in Brick: Our Pro Tips for What Works & What Doesn’t

An Aedes triseriatus mosquito found before Lawn Doctor provided Mosquito Spraying in Brick.

Mosquitoes don’t have to be a chronic source of frustration all summer. While they’re persistent, there are ways to fight back and keep them away from you and your family. Unfortunately, not all methods are created equal. Some are effective, and others just don’t work. How can you tell? Here are some tips from our mosquito spraying team to ensure a buzz-free summer in Brick, Toms River, and other surrounding areas in NJ.

  • Skip the smartphone and get a fan. While apps and ultrasonic devices claim to keep mosquitoes away, they don’t work as advertised when tested. Don’t waste time or money on them. Instead, get an outdoor fan. Mosquitoes are weak fliers, so a fan will deter them. They’ll also have difficulty detecting your scent when a fan is blowing nearby.
  • Don’t use wristbands, but do use repellents. Repellent comes in all shapes and sizes, including wristbands. Unfortunately, these don’t do much in the way of protection. What does work? Insect repellent sprays containing DEET, Picaridin, or lemon eucalyptus oil as the active ingredient.
  • Make sure standing water is gone. Anything that can hold water can also provide an excellent breeding site for mosquitoes, including empty planters, watering cans, kiddie pools, and furniture covers. Make sure they’re removed from your yard or emptied out.
  • Don’t worry about buying citronella candles. There’s no scientific evidence citronella candles repel mosquitoes. They provide the same protection as any other ordinary candle, deterring mosquitoes with smoke and attracting them to the heat and light instead of you.
