Tips for preventing fungus:
- Watering: Water your lawn deeply and infrequently in the morning to allow the grass to dry. Avoid watering late in the day or at night.
- Mowing: Mow regularly, but don’t cut the grass too short. Remove no more than a third of the grass length at a time.
- Fertilizing: Use a fertilizer with high nitrogen levels to help stop rust. Avoid excess nitrogen in the fall.
- Aerating: Aerate your lawn regularly to break up thatch and allow for proper air circulation.
- Planting: Plant disease-resistant types of grass, such as tall fescue.
- Fungicide: Applying a fungicide at the first sign of a disease. We can apply a fungicide every 30-45 days from late spring until beginning of fall for full protection. Fungus or brown patch kills the grass and fescue lawns might need re – seeding in the areas affected.
- Cleaning: Clean up debris from your yard and clean tools to prevent spread.
- Soil: Test the soil and maintain soil pH between 6.5–6.7. Call us for a soil test!
- Shade: Reduce shade.
