Ticks don’t like the sun. They thrive in dark, shady, moist<\/strong> areas. Think along fence lines, under shrubs, at the edge of the lawn, in tall grass, or around brush piles. We often picture ticks falling from trees, but more often they grab on from below<\/strong>, waiting for someone to brush past tall grass or undergrowth.<\/p>\n


\nWays to Make Your Yard Less Tick-Friendly<\/strong><\/h2>\n

1. Clean Up the Yard<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ticks hate sunny, dry environments. The more you prune back overgrown vegetation and remove brush or debris, the fewer spots they have to call home. Open up shady areas by trimming trees and shrubs, especially around the edges of your lawn.<\/p>\n

2. Mow Regularly<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Ticks use tall grass as highways. Keeping your lawn trimmed (3.5\u20134 inches is ideal) not only improves its health\u2014it also makes it harder for ticks to move around unnoticed.<\/p>\n

3. Plant with Purpose<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Believe it or not, some plants naturally repel ticks! Mint, lavender, rosemary, marigolds, and citronella grass<\/strong> can help discourage ticks, mosquitoes, and even fleas. They’re low maintenance and smell great, too.\u00a0 Mulched beds building a 3 foot barrier between lawn space and woods are a great protective measure.<\/p>\n
