- Picaridin<\/strong>\u00a0stands beside DEET as an extremely effective insect repellent, but it just recently became available for use in the United States.<\/li>\n
- Mosquito Traps\u00a0<\/strong>use mosquito bait and release CO\u00b2 to fight mosquitoes. While these traps are effective in killing mosquitoes, they also attract them to your property, and buying one can be expensive.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
What Doesn’t Work<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Citronella candles<\/strong>\u00a0are often advertised as “mosquito candles,” but they haven’t actually been shown to do more than regular candles when it comes to attracting ticks.<\/li>\n
- Sonic devices<\/strong>\u00a0that emit a sound like dragonflies are often sold as mosquito deterrents, but there’s no research that says this noise deters mosquitoes. And if you’ve ever been to a lake or a pond in the summer, you’ll know that the presence of dragonflies doesn’t keep mosquitoes from swarming around you.<\/li>\n
