Spittlebug Control

spittlebug on leafSpittlebugs are black with two reddish-orange lines crossing their back and are about ¼ inch in length. With heavy infestations, the adults hop or fly across the lawn.

These insects suck the chlorophyll from grass leaf blades resulting in yellow leaf blades and a lawn that has a bleached out appearance. Infested lawns typically do not green-up from either fertilizer applications or increased watering. If left untreated, lawns can actually appear to go dormant. This is a very unhealthy situation for your turf if it continues throughout the growing season.

Controlling spittlebugs requires two, well-timed applications 7 – 10 days apart of our insect controls to interrupt their life cycle. Unfortunately, spittlebugs will likely return every year to feed on your lawn. Our 2-service continuing program provides the best control available.
