Peaceful.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, as we approached the 4th of July holiday, we anticipated drier warmer weather. Well, as the spigot was turned off, so was the heat lamp turned on. 90-95 degree heat quickly caused browning of the fine bladed, cool weather grasses (Annual Bluegrass &amp; Fine Fescues).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1174 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/08\/unnamed-4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"199\" height=\"253\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Shallow soils with rock or sand (in combination with the heat) also stressed out many lawns.\u00a0 After 17 days of heat, we were suddenly experiencing a monsoon &#8211; 5-7&#8243; of rain\u00a0<span class=\"aBn\" tabindex=\"0\" data-term=\"goog_1528641377\"><span class=\"aQJ\">in 5 days<\/span><\/span>.\u00a0 Flash floods, violent thunder and lightning quickly charged the dry cracked soils.\u00a0 In April we were 2&#8243; below normal rainfall; now we are 14-16&#8243; above normal.\u00a0 July was not a peaceful weather month.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-1175 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/08\/unnamed-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"370\" height=\"208\" \/><\/p>\n<h4>LAWN CARE<\/h4>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Brown Spots:\u00a0 Though the lawns have &#8220;greened&#8221; back up, the previous heat and disease activity resulted in damaged spots.\u00a0 Continued rain will help some grass to recover; others may require seeding this fall.\u00a0 Power seeding this fall will help introduce better grass varieties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weeds: Extreme weather will affect good weed control.\u00a0 The Crabgrass barrier has been compromised by the heavy rains, disease activity, and heat stress.\u00a0 The same can be said for Japanese Stiltgrass in the shade.\u00a0 The best solution at this time is to have those areas Power Seeded this September.\u00a0 As the crabgrass\/Stiltgrass dies this fall, newly planted seed will fill in the thin areas and replace the crabgrass.\u00a0 Call now if you would like an estimate for guaranteed Power Seeding.<\/p>\n<p><center><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/KaTx8G003BQ\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/center>Lawn Doctor Power Seeding<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Mowing:\u00a0 Continue to mow high at 3-4 inches, when it&#8217;s dry.\u00a0 Evening is best.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Aeration:\u00a0 All this rain has compacted our soils; this limits root tillering in the fall.\u00a0 Core Aeration (mechanically plugging the soil) this fall will significantly improve the vitality and strength of your lawn.\u00a0 Aeration also helps incorporate lime and phosphorous down into the soil.\u00a0 Call now to schedule your lawn for Core Aeration.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-6\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1130 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/08\/unnamed-6-300x208.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"225\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-6\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1125 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/08\/unnamed.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"225\" \/><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h4>PLANT CARE<\/h4>\n<p>Many plants have been affected by the extreme weather patterns. I have seen many evergreens succumb to foliar disease and root rot. Crape Myrtles and Butterfly bushes are still recovering from the cold, dry winter. Avoid fall pruning on these plants.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1179 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/08\/unnamed-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"225\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/08\/unnamed-1.jpg 225w, https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/08\/unnamed-1-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is the month to dig up and split your daffodil bulbs; store in a dry place for later October planting.\u00a0 Locate and mark daylilies and hostas that you want to also split in September.
