That&#8217;s all the sun we saw in the month of February. But, compared to the bitter cold in January, things are starting to &#8220;spring up&#8221;. Remember, weed control and seed are not compatible. General seeding is best done in the fall. If you do some seeding on your own tell us!!! So we are working together.<\/p>\n<p>Spring weeds &#8211; especially chickweed, henbit, and bittercress that germinated last December will be treated as soon as we are experiencing warmer temperatures at night.<\/p>\n<p>Mowing &#8211; are you ready, is your blade sharp? This means that some plants are damaged and will need attention. Evergreens will show browning of the foliage that will fall off in time or can be pruned later in April &#8211; after new growth appears. Crape Myrtles that are not (zone 5-6) winter hardy may have died back &#8211; down the trunk, or have completely died. I&#8217;ve received several calls this spring about Japanese Maples and Crape Myrtles holding their leaves, read more about it here\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/marylandgrows.umd.edu\/2018\/02\/28\/qa-why-didnt-japanese-maples-lose-their-leaves-last-fall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/marylandgrows.umd.edu\/2018\/02\/28\/qa-why-didnt-japanese-maples-lose-their-leaves-last-fall\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Apricot and Euonymous scale is particularly bad on Cherry Laurels and other evergreens. A heavy application of Horticultural Oil is the best this time of year with a follow up treatment later in summer. Call me if you have any questions about this or need help.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row\">\n<div class=\"col-md-6\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1127 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/03\/Lawn0187-Leaf.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"194\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"col-md-6\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1123 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.lawndoctor.com\/finksburg-md\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/15\/2018\/03\/Lawn0187-Close-up-leaf.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"260\" height=\"194\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>St. Patrick&#8217;s Day is usually a good time to prune back your roses and butterfly bushes, corrective pruning (decreasing the size) of your evergreens is best done in March also.<\/p>\n<p>Planting &#8211; plan now! If you want to introduce new shrubs or trees, March is the month to transplant or install new plants. Transplanting when the tree or shrub is actively putting out new growth causes extra shock on the plant: trying to establish roots and this year&#8217;s flowers\/leaves at the same time is strenuous on the plant. Spray a 1 quart baking dish with cooking spray. Set aside. In a medium-size mixing bowl use a hand mixer to cream together the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise and Thousand Island dressing until fully combined.<\/li>\n<li>Drain and rinse the sauerkraut then squeeze dry using paper towels. Add the sauerkraut, chopped corn beef, and 1 \u00bd cup shredded Swiss cheese to the creamed mixture. Mix together by hand.<\/li>\n<li>Spread the dip into the baking dish and top with the remaining cheese.<\/li>\n<li>Place into the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes until bubbly and golden.
