Is your\u00a0lawn\u00a0stressed in the high temps and dry spell?<\/p>\n

With the heat of the summer, there are several things that homeowners can do to make sure that their\u00a0lawn\u00a0is well taken care of. By following these tips, the stress that your\u00a0lawn\u00a0in under will be significantly reduced.<\/p>\n

Watering<\/strong>
\nYards should be getting a deep watering 2-3 times a week. A deep watering means watering enough to get 4-5 inches below the surface.<\/p>\n

The best time to water is between 4-7 in the morning. Watering in the middle of the day with high heat can burn the blades of the grass or evaporate before the roots get the full benefit from the watering. Watering in the afternoon or at night when the water sits on the grass for a long time can invite fungus and disease problems.<\/p>\n

It is possible to over-water, so if you are seeing puddles or a lot of run-off on the street, consider shortening the watering time or running a zone in a split application.<\/p>\n

Mowing<\/strong>
\nIt is better for grass to grow out longer during this severe heat rather than be cut shorter. Longer grass encourages root growth and allows for more moisture to come in through the roots. The grass also holds water better if it is kept long.<\/p>\n

Scalping grass, cutting it too short, puts the grass in a lot of stress and can cause it to look brown and unhealthy. We recommend never cutting more than one-third of the grass off at a time. Cutting more than one-third will put it under a lot of stress and can make it look and be unhealthy.<\/p>\n

Brown Areas<\/strong>
