Voles will mostly be found burrowing in grassy areas, which can include your own lawn. It can be difficult to know if you have a vole problem in the winter, as voles spend much of their time under coverings, which includes snow. Vole damage can look like small raised dirt mounds or tunnels in close proximity to each other.

Unfortunately, Lawn Doctor does not currently offer a product or service as a solution to voles. If spring rolls around and you identify vole damage in your lawn when the snow melts, there are steps you can take to fix it. Voles typically don’t stay around one lawn very long, so gently raking, seeding, and fertilizing the damaged area can help grass grow back as usual in a minimal amount of time. Voles found in lawns typically only feed on grass shoots, which means root systems stay intact for more growth. Keeping lawns trimmed short, between 2-4 inches, can discourage voles from returning.

Eastern meadow voles, sometimes referred to as meadow mice, are 2-3 oz rodents that inhabit eastern North America and are active all year round.
