What Works<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Mosquito Traps –\u00a0<\/strong>There are many kinds of mosquito traps out there, but they generally fight mosquitoes by using bait to draw them in and trap them. And while these traps can be effective in eliminating large numbers of mosquitoes, they’re often expensive.<\/li>\n
- DEET –\u00a0<\/strong>DEET is one of the most widely-used ingredients in mosquito sprays and lotions because it’s extremely effective at keeping these insects off of your skin and clothing. If you’re shopping around for personal mosquito protection, DEET sprays and lotions are\u00a0a pretty dependable choice.<\/li>\n
- Picaridin –\u00a0<\/strong>Picaridin is comparable to DEET in how it’s used and how effective it is at keeping mosquitoes off of you. However, because it hasn’t been available for use in the United States for as long as DEET, it’s tougher to find in repellent products.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
What Doesn’t Work<\/strong><\/p>\n\n- Wristbands –\u00a0<\/strong>Pest repellent wristbands should be avoided simply because, even if they do provide some protection, they only protect your wrist.<\/li>\n
- Citronella Candles –\u00a0<\/strong>Citronella can be useful in some pest deterrent products, but in candle form, it’s no more effective than household candles at keeping mosquitoes away.<\/li>\n
- Sonic Devices –\u00a0<\/strong>Some products claim to keep mosquitoes away by emitting the sounds made by a dragonfly. The problem with these products is that there’s no evidence supporting the claim that dragonfly noises do anything to keep mosquitoes at bay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
