What Is Nutsedge?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nutsedge is a persistent, fast-growing weed that looks a lot like regular grass\u2014but grows taller, faster, and with a thicker, triangular stem. It thrives in warm temperatures and especially loves\u00a0wet, poorly drained,\u00a0depressed\u00a0or low-lying areas<\/strong>\u00a0of the lawn.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s why after heavy rains or extended watering, it often makes a surprise appearance.<\/p>\n

Why Is It Showing Up Now?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Warm weather + moisture = nutsedge heaven.<\/p>\n

Conditions like summer heat combined with frequent rain or overwatering create the perfect environment for nutsedge to thrive. If you have any compacted soil or areas where water tends to pool, you\u2019re even more likely to see it pop up.<\/p>\n

How Do You Treat Nutsedge?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Nutsedge is tough\u2014but not invincible.<\/p>\n

It can\u2019t be prevented pre-emergence like some other weeds.\u00a0Treatment is only effective once it\u2019s actively growing<\/strong>, which is why we use targeted post-emergent products. These applications will control the nutsedge that\u2019s visible now, but because it germinates in waves,\u00a0often in the same areas,\u00a0repeat applications are often necessary<\/strong>\u00a0for lasting control.<\/p>\n

Will It Come Back?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In short: probably.<\/p>\n

Nutsedge is a survivor. Its tubers and seeds can lay dormant in the soil for up to\u00a010 years<\/strong>, waiting for just the right conditions to return. So yes, even with treatment, it may reappear in the future\u2014but consistent care and control efforts make a big difference.<\/p>\n

What Can You Do to Help?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

While chemical treatments are key, there\u2019s a lot you can do to make your lawn less appealing to nutsedge:<\/p>\n
