Overseeding.<\/strong> When it comes to lawn seeding in the Naperville area, overseeding is the simplest approach. For overseeding, a spreader is typically used to distribute new grass seed over your existing turf. If you have some bare spots or are noticing minor thinning, then this approach can certainly help. However, the germination rates with straight overseeding are very low and we would not normally recommend straight overseeding without some type of cultivation\u00a0.<\/p>\n Aeration with Overseeding. <\/strong>Are you noticing thinning grass and standing water in your yard? Do you have a hard time getting a screwdriver or shovel into the soil? Compaction is likely the culprit, which is why you’ll need to aerate your lawn first. With core aeration, small plugs of soil are removed from your lawn, breaking down surface thatch and loosening compacted soil. As a result, your turf can absorb more oxygen, water and nutrients. Combining core aeration with overseeding produces a higher germination rate because it helps increase the seed to soil contact.\u00a0 We first aerate the lawn and then would overseed as described above.<\/p>\n
